Hog's Breath at Chijmes

Dear Orr Kwee treated me to Hog's Breath for dinner :) Have I ever mentioned he's the nicest kor ever?? hee..


We went to the one at Chijmes and were seated in booths :) I love the decor, it's all wood and very homey. The service was excellent, the waitress who got us the table went into this very enthu introduction of the whole menu, recommending us on what they have and what's their signature dish. I like this kinda service, at least I'm not lost when I face a unfamiliar menu.

And she's cute :p pointing out for kor of course :p


The salt and pepper comes into such cute bottle!! Corona.. I like.. hee.. cheap thrill.


That's kor's main, it's the normal steak :p Oh, that's him in his raoul shirt :p nice leh, I like.. the shirt of course.. hahah.. kor already have too many girls falling for him liao, he needs me to need him grounded by telling him only his shirt looks good.. hahaha..


Here's my prime ribs with cheese, salsa and jalepanos (die, I dunno how to spell :p).

Kor's steak was nice, but not fantasic, whereas my is like.. Oh my god!! My steak was super good. It's very soft, very tender, very juicy, very flavourful. It was very very good. For prime ribs, they usually grill the whole rack of ribs for like hours on, so the meat is very tender, then just before they serve, they will cut out a portion and sautee to the done-ness you like.

I had mine medium well, which they done perfectly, soft yet only a little bit of blood. I'm still not used to the blood in steaks.

What can I say?? The steak is just very very good, really gotta try it to know how good it is :)


Desserts!! Chocolate mud cake! It comes with ice cream and fudge and it's good. Though not as sublime as the mud pie from Stuart Andersons it's pretty good and the serving is huge. We could not finish it :p

Oh, if anyone is having a birthday, you can call that place in advance and they will give you the cake for free!! Such good service rite??


I dunno if this is still valid, but it's for lunch only. Now we only have to wait for our bosses to be out and we will pop by chijmes for a nice long lunch :p


The best a steak can get, and I must agree, the steak is really good. So it shall be the best till I've tried Morton's and Coq and Bull :p *hints to ah dear*

Price-wise, I think this place is really pretty reasonable, we only spent like 70+ and that's with a starter, two mains, a dessert and drinks. We had a 20% discount though.

This place is really somewhere I will go again and again, the ambience is good, you can sit outdoors if you wanna watch soccer. The service is excellent, food is great and pricing is reasonable, so what more do a person want?? Oh did I mention that the portions are huge? I gave about 1/4 of my steak to kor and I was still stuffed! Very very satisfying.

Va Va Voom Cafe

This is a vietnamese concept cafe located at Seah Street, it's very easy to locate, just right next to the famous chicken rice there :p

So my colleagues and I were in the area yesterday and we were trying to decide between the chicken rice or vietnamese food, the orange decor of va va voom won out :p

The place is very simple, decorated in white and orange, which made the place look very bright and cheery.

We ordered


Morning glory with stirfry chicken as a starter. The morning glory is raw, abit like spinach and it comes with this slightly sour sauce which is very nice!! I like!!

The crispy-ness of the morning glory stems goes very well with the sauce that's sweet and tangy. The crisp fried onion complements the tender chicken pieces very well.


Close up.. there's fried onions as garnish. The dish is really very good, I must bring my mummy there, she will love it.


This is our main.. Authentic pork chop rice, this dish can go with noodles too. I love pork chop, actually I prefer pork over chicken, but I eat chicken more coz not everywhere makes good pork dishes.

That's rice topped with an egg, pork chop at the side, small salad, pork cake-thingy and fish sauce.


See the light brown thing on the egg? That's pork fats, I like dishes cooked in lard, but I dun like to eat it. Still the egg is pretty good.

I did not really take the fish sauce, too salty and the rice goes so much better with the morning glory sauce.

The pork cake-thingy is ok, a bit too salty once you take more than a bite, but the texture is interesting, there's peppers and other spices inside (I'm bad at identifying spices :p).

Now the lead, the pork chop.. NICE!!! It's so tender and very well marinated. It cuts very easily with a normal spoon and it's so juicy when you bite into it, the flavours just burst out. I like things that are sweet and the meat is marinated till it's the right level of sweetness.

Service was very good too, my colleague dropped her chopsticks and without us getting their attention, they immediately gave us another pair of chopsticks, maybe coz it was not crowded, but still, the attentiveness is something.

Pricing is one of the most attractive part of the meal, one starter and 3 mains just set us back by 27 bucks! Cheap! And there's no service charge and gst! I like that. Plus the whole meal is so healthy, we have our carbs, proteins and fibre! This is what I call a balanced meal.

The only pity is we don't have time to try out their drip coffee.

Uberburger at Millenia Walk

To welcome my new colleague and celebrate something, my boss treated us to Uberburger over at Millenia Walk. That's the place that serves the 101 burger, the crazy-priced burger that comes with wagyu, foie gras and truffles.

One word about this place.. O.V.E.R.A.T.E.D.

It's bad.. really B.A.D. And on the day that we were there, they ran out of foie gras and thus in order to serve the 101 burger, they will be giving more wagyu. Rubbish.

Now the decor is really very nice, it's a very cosy place with very modern decor, but the food and the service disappoints.

I shall start with the food first then complain about the service later.


For starters we ordered mushrooms which were pretty ok.


I got a shrimp burger, which was ok initially but after a few bites, the spices became overwhelming. All I taste was the spice and the beans inside. The beans made the texture of the burger very interesting, but other than that, the shrimp was boring and I could not taste them after awhile.


My burger came with this salad, supposedly a healthy alternative to fries.. pui.. the salad was boring,the only nice thing was the pine nuts and apple.


My colleague had the wagyu burger, not the 101, it's just wagyu patty.

What can I say? I love wagyu, I love the texture and the flavours, but this place just killed the wagyu. There's no way the meat is wagyu for it lacks both the texture and the flavour of wagyu.

When you eat wagyu, you go for the texture, the melt-in-your-mouth kinda texture, the fats just melting in your mouth, the flavours spreading all over your tongue. This wagyu burger? I feel like I'm eating beef balls, it's chewy for goodness sake. And the fats is not there at all, it's just a big meatball. Not those meatball you get at ikea, I'm talking about beef noodles kinda factory meat balls.


Now the fries are good, it's pipping hot and very tender when you bite in. And they serve in a humogous portions.

Their service deserves a -10. It is very bad.

Initially we were brought to our table by this girl who was pretty polite, but that's about all the good service we were going to get.

The serving was very slow, and as we do not have so much time, my colleague asked one of the guy waiters if he could go check on our food. Guess what that waiter replied?? "Oh it's coming." And he said that without even going to the kitchen to check for us, what kinda attitude is that?? The least he could do is to pretend to walk to the kitchen and then come back to tell us that. Nope, he can't be bothered.

Then the same guy served the fries. You know what he did, he asked my colleague, "did you order fries?" and when my colleague said yes, that fucking waiter just slammed the fries onto the table. What's his fucking problem?!

We asked for ice water once we sat down and it took them more than 15 minutes to actually serve us the water, and the place was less than 10% filled up.

When we eventually finished our meals and asked for the bill, it did not come on a proper leather bill thingy, the waitress just passed the receipt to us. Ah duh.. what the heck is that?! So my boss gave her a suggestion and the waitres actually said, "Oh, that's the way we do things here."

Huh?! Did I hear that right?! These people are seriously in need of some proper service lesson, when a customer gives a suggestion, they should reply, "oh, we will bring it up to the manager, thank for the suggestion." They don't even have to really do it, they just have to say it.

See how bad the service is.. And the bill also took damn long to come. I don't get it, they are at the Millenia area, where all the bankers are, and they provide such lousy service, it's not as if they don't charge service charge and that their food is cheap and good. I seriously can see the place closing down in another year.

I do not tolerate lousy service, if I'm paying, you can be sure that I'll be talking to the manager before I pay and leave. And then I'll write a formal letter of complain.

Dining experience: 0.5 out of 10 (fries were their saving grace)

I'm never stepping into that place again. Waste of my time and money, I rather eat at the food court.
